webDotWiz Online: 27-Jul-2000

This week webDotWiz discusses a software firewall you can use for protection against scanner-hackers, finds a wordprocessor which helps you get your writing done, and offers encouragement for those who want to begin programming. Gamers, you're not forgotten, nor are those looking for more MP3 downloads.

New!! Visit any sport's offical international site for the latest news on preparations for the Sydney Olympics. Probably the best is the I.A.A.F's site where you'll find all recent performances and rankings in all athletic events so you'll know who our Australian athletes are competing against. Just click here to get started.

Have fun.

• Microsoft has released Service Pack 1 for users of Internet Explorer 5.01. This service pack includes all the security patches that have lately been released. Also, IE's security will be upgraded to 128-bit, the highest possible. A couple of days later, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 5.5; this version adds some features requested by users and builds on the stability of IE 5.01. Both the Service Pack and IE5.5 can be downloaded from the IE download page. However, it's probably more practical to wait until they become available on the cover CD of your favourite computer magazine.
